POLICY PURPOSE:

APPLIES TO:

Students, Faculty, Staff, and other members of the KU community

POLICY STATEMENT:

In order to prevent unauthorized use and charges, it is the cardholder’s responsibility to report a lost or stolen KU Card. The University of Kansas is not liable for financial loss or criminal repercussions associated with lost, stolen, damaged, or fraudulently used KU Cards. Do not lend your KU Card to a friend or fellow student. It is your official identification card and should be carried with you at all times and available to present to university officials upon request.

If your KU Card has been lost or stolen, it must be deactivated immediately online via the Kyou portal (login, click the “Finances” tab and then choose the “Report your KU Card lost or stolen” link), or by calling the Card Center at 785-864-5845 (during business hours). You may also go to the Card Center (M-F, 8:00am-4:00pm) to deactivate your card.

When a KU Card is deactivated, the cardholder’s residence hall access, meal plan access, student recreation center access, and Beak ‘Em Bucks account will automatically be suspended. To suspend other features/services, i.e. those offered by Commerce Bank, the Libraries, and other departmental systems, the cardholder must contact the appropriate office. It is also the cardholder’s responsibility to obtain a replacement card at the Card Center by presenting proper identification and paying the $15 replacement fee.

If you have your KU Card linked to a Commerce Bank Checking Account, call 1-800-645-2103 to report it lost or stolen, then visit the KU Card Center and the Commerce Bank branch to get a new card and link it to your account.

Also, please contact the Libraries' Circulation Business Office, 785-864-4715 or libraccser@ku.edu, or the Watson Library Service Desk, 785-864-8983, to report that your card is lost or stolen. This is necessary to prevent use of the lost or stolen KU Card.

Please note: If your KU Card is replaced due to lost or theft, it is deactivated and cannot be reactivated should you find it at a later date. Only the latest card printed is valid.
